What is an exposition?

Hmm...

This is definitely not a very fitting title for the very first post of this blog...

This post was entirely involuntary, and was completed because of a direct order from Mr Kelvin Yap (:

Why create a blog in the first place?

It...sort of...uses up my browser's history and cache data...

Ah well...rules are rules, orders are orders, teachers are teachers...(ahem)

(dum dee dum...whistles and tried to look innocent while walking away inconspicuously)

What makes an exposition?

"Exposition is one of four rhetorical modes of discourse, along with argumentationdescription, and narration. The purpose of exposition is to inform, and my pubic hairs of plot, character, setting, and theme."
-Wikipedia

"A setting forth of the meaning or purpose (as of a writing)"
-Merriam-Webster

"writing or speech primarily intended to convey information or to explain; a detailed statement or explanation; explanatory treatise: The students prepared expositions on familiar essay topics."
-Dictionary.com

Have I achieved my purpose?

No?

But I thought all you wanted to know was "what is an exposition"...

Oh you want my point of view?

Why didn't you say so...

Well, personally...

First of all, I agree with all the definitions above. I find them extremely fitting and none of them contradict with what I had in mind. However, if you insist on my personal view...

In my opinion, an exposition is aimed at providing information, with the added intent of trying to get the reader to agree with or at least understand what the writer's take or stand on the topic(s) is. The writer often aims at provoking further thought in the reader.

Short and sweet.

Well I hope I have used my time wisely enough to try and come up with a decent(?) post. Thank you for your kind attention and I sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Have a nice day.
